Second Youth Mobility in Neum: Young People with Visual Impairments Strengthened Skills for Active Participation in the Community

From 3 to 8 July 2026, the second international youth mobility under the Erasmus+ project Youth IMPACT, took place in Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The mobility brought together young people with visual impairments from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Slovenia, along with representatives of a research centre from Cyprus. Over six days, participants used non-formal learning methods to build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to take a more active part in their communities.

The programme was designed to empower young people for equal and active participation in society. Through interactive workshops, participants worked on building mutual trust and team spirit, developed professional and social contacts, and acquired skills in effective communication and conflict resolution. They were introduced to the 11 European Union Youth Goals, reflected on shared values and the importance of active citizenship, learned how to advocate for their own rights, and explored how to use media and digital tools to launch public campaigns. Particular emphasis was placed on hands-on work: participants designed and produced their own promotional materials and a video for a real public advocacy campaign and also discovered the many opportunities the Erasmus+ programme offers young people.

Beyond its educational value, the mobility was equally valuable as an opportunity for participants to get to know one another, exchange experiences and connect with young people from different European countries. During their time together they formed new friendships, built an international network of contacts, and learned from one another through the exchange of good practice and personal experiences. Communicating in English on a daily basis further strengthened their communication competences, boosted their confidence, and increased their readiness to take part in future international activities.

International mobilities of this kind hold particular significance for young people with visual impairments, as they offer the chance to develop new knowledge and skills, strengthen independence, self-advocacy and active citizenship, and foster a sense of belonging to the wider European community. Participants returned home with new experiences, motivation and connections that will serve them well in both their personal and professional lives.
We thank all participants, volunteers and partner organisations for their valuable contribution and successful cooperation, and we look forward to continuing our activities within the Erasmus+ Youth IMPACT project.
